James McClatchy
James McClatchy began his association with the Sacramento Region Community Foundation in 1995, opening a donor-advised fund whose purpose was to provide assistance to public facilities in the Oak Park area and to support local organizations with a regional focus. James was dedicated to making substantive improvements to life in the central valley and approached his giving with an expansive vision of addressing needs now and well into the future.
Aside from his many other efforts to help our region, he used his fund with the Foundation to help grow Valley Vision (which he co-founded), to support KVIE, to assist St. Hope in Oak Park and a number of other organizations that work toward the betterment of our community.
James opened a second fund in 2005 to provide leadership opportunities and education to the children of immigrants, recognizing that the growth of this region will be composed significantly of people who are new to this country.
Along with the rest of the community, we were saddened by James McClatchy’s passing in 2006. His love of the central valley and his vision for its future will live on through a marvelous legacy which he left in the form of meaningful bequests, the bulk of which were designated for the purpose of helping underprivileged young people.
