The Kathleen Barsotti Scholarship for Sustainable Agriculture
The scholarship was established for high school seniors in Yolo County pursuing an education that incorporates sustainable agriculture. The scholarship is not limited to agriculture majors. The Kathleen Barsotti Non-Profit for Sustainable Agriculture (KBNP) was founded In 2009 in memory of Kathleen Barsotti. Kathleen was a pioneer in the organic agriculture movement founding one of Northern California’s first certified organic farms, playing an instrumental role in the creation of the renowned Davis Farmers Market, and starting the successful CSA Farm Fresh To You.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be pursuing an education that incorporates sustainable agriculture. The scholarship is not limited to agriculture majors.
- Must be a graduating high school senior in Yolo County planning to attend a 2-year or 4-year college/university in the upcoming academic year..
- Have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0 – 4.5 on a 4.0 scale.
- Applicants must intend to enroll full-time 12 units or more or the equivalent in the upcoming academic year.
Application Requirements
- Submit the General Application to apply for the Kathleen Barsotti Scholarship for Sustainable Agriculture.
- Essay: Why do you think sustainable agriculture is important in today’s world? How will your degree and career choices promote sustainability in agriculture?
- Reference letter: provide a letter of reference from a teacher, employer, community organization or an individual who you are not related to. The reference letter must identify the individuals name, title, and relationship to you.
Scholarship Award
- Award amount is $4,000 payable at $1,000 per year for up to 4 years. Renewal requirements: GPA of 2.0, provide cover letter, transcript and proof of enrollment to claim renewal award.
- Award payment is sent to the college/university in one (1) payment and divided evenly between the academic term.
- The scholarship can be used for cost of attendance (includes tuition, fees, books, educational expenses, supplies, and housing).
